Getting started
I started making soap after the only soap I had ever loved was discontinued. Dramatic, I know. I have extremely sensitive skin that reacts poorly to artificial fragrances and hash hard water that makes dry skin a constant battle. I also really like soap with texture for exfoliation. I complained to a family member that I needed to find a new soap, but instead of giving me a recommendation, she showed me how to make my own.
Fast forward a few months...
...it’s spring in the inland northwest and my husband comes in early from working outside. He's complaining all the mosquitos are making work miserable and asked if I could make him something that would make him less appealing to them. And so, our very first retail soap (Outdoor) was created. It combines ground walnut (for exfoliation) and a blend of essential oils known for their bug repelling properties.
From there, I got a little carried away
I ended up with so much soap that my husband and I started Mt Lucy Handmade to share our soap with others.
Our approach to soap is a little different. Our soap bases are first created ‘plain’ and allowed to cure. They are then reprocessed (or re-batched) with therapeutic grade essential oils, butters, clays, exfoliants, etc. This allows us to use essential oils that are typically avoided in traditional soap making. More importantly, you'll never find artificial fragrances or dyes in any of our products.
